About My Recommended Resources

Early in my career, I used to think that senior technical professionals who were successful knew everything. They appeared to have knowledge that I could never acquire. But I was wrong; you’re also wrong if you feel this way. As I progressed in my corporate career, I realized that the most successful individuals had something that others did not. It wasn’t a nefarious conspiracy but access to a network of like-minded, career-focused professionals who provided support and information. They had access to recommended resources and tools that others were unaware of.

Anyone who tells you they “got there” alone is lying.

I genuinely want to provide you with both support and resources. Through the Code & Compass Podcast (coming soon!), I can share the wisdom I’ve gained from my 20+ years of experience in technical fields.

This page aims to provide additional tools and resources that have helped me to stand out from the competition.

Must Have Reading List For Leaders

I have read every one of these. By “read,” I mean I listened to them on audiobook via Audible. I find Audible to be a more convenient format for me. Listening to this content on the drive back and forth to work is so easy. I can’t recommend it enough.

Recommended Resources for Everyone

These resources are incredibly valuable for almost all professionals, regardless of discipline. Whether in an entry-level desktop support role or an experienced C-level executive, these resources will serve you well.

I’m a massive fan of Fiverr! It’s been my go-to platform for years. Fiverr offers a straightforward marketplace where you can easily find skilled professionals to fill gaps in your expertise. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

If you’re looking for a little IT office humor, I really like Cache & Doodle. This brand publishes fun notebooks, puzzle books, and other items with an IT Theme. They make great office gifts.

Before you submit your resume online, you should scan your resume and the job description with Jobscan. I have personally used this tool for years. Jobscan will help you optimize your resume for today’s Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), which can filter out your resume before a human even sees it.

Your grammar and spelling are terrible! I’m sorry to be the one to tell you. It’s true. To advance your career, subscribe to Grammarly like I do. You’re welcome.

The Internet can be a sketchy place. Without the protection of a VPN, you’re essentially inviting trouble. NordVPN offers affordable security for multiple devices without breaking the bank.

Recommended Resources for Web Developers

Web development was a specialized skill only a few people needed to know. Today that isn’t the case. Everyone from technical staff to marketing and product managers must understand the basics. Here are some recommended developer tools that every professional should have a basic understanding of.

If your organization uses WordPress, you should be using Elementor. Elementor is the most hassle-free plug-in that will save you hours of frustration. It is my “go-to” for all WordPress sites.
